Your persistent party

Build lives, not just character sheets.

Control one to four characters, combine their strengths and develop lives that keep their own history.

Four distinct adventurers plan together around a map, with different equipment and professions

What this means for your play

Choices with practical meaning.

Choose the amount of party complexity you enjoy. Each character has individual capability, equipment, knowledge, relationships and a continuing place in the world.

One player, your chosen party

Play a single hero, a smaller group or four player characters. You do not need four people to keep a party campaign moving.

Progression beyond a level number

Levels 1 to 10 sit alongside skills, professions, relationships, equipment, ownership and experience. A level is not the sum of a character’s life.

Combine different strengths

One character can notice evidence another overlooks. Choose who acts, coordinate several or plan an approach that uses the whole party.

Keep distinct histories

A shared journey does not give everyone identical injuries, possessions or knowledge. What happened to each person still matters.

In depth

How it works.

Read the part that interests you. Each capability connects to your party and the continuing world.

Play one hero or command a full party.

VERIDIAN supports one human player controlling between one and four persistent player characters.

  • Play a single central hero.
  • Build a pair with complementary strengths.
  • Create a traditional adventuring group.
  • Or command a full four-character party.

Your characters can develop differently, specialise differently, build different relationships and contribute different capabilities to the party. The party is not simply four copies of the same progression system.

  • Who you bring matters.
  • What each character knows matters.
  • What each character can do matters.
  • Their history matters.
  • Their relationships matter.
  • Their condition matters.
  • Their equipment matters.
  • Their role in the party matters.

Levels matter, but they are not the whole progression system.

VERIDIAN supports character development through levels 1 to 10. The depth comes from everything that happens between them.

  • Characters develop through:
  • Abilities.
  • Skills.
  • Equipment.
  • Magic.
  • Professions.
  • Relationships.
  • Reputation.
  • Knowledge.
  • Property.
  • Faction connections.
  • Companions.
  • Resources.
  • Discoveries.
  • Experience in the world.

The goal is not to make level numbers move quickly. The goal is to make characters feel as though they have lived a long life by the time they reach the highest stages of the campaign.

Build combinations, not just characters.

A party can solve problems in ways a single character cannot.

  • Different abilities.
  • Different professions.
  • Different social strengths.
  • Different knowledge.
  • Different magical capability.
  • Different combat roles.
  • Different equipment.
  • Different relationships.
  • Different reputations.
  • Different approaches.
  • One party might solve a problem through influence.
  • Another through investigation.
  • Another through magic.
  • Another through trade.
  • Another through stealth.
  • Another through force.
  • Another through a mixture of everything.

VERIDIAN is designed so party composition changes the way you experience the world.

Choose the complexity you want.

  • One persistent character gives a focused personal campaign.
  • Two characters create strong complementary play.
  • Three allow greater specialisation.
  • Four provide the full party experience.

Players can choose the scale that suits them while remaining inside the same persistent RPG. Companions can expand the social and tactical experience further where appropriate.

A full party RPG without needing four people at the table.

One human controls the persistent party. That allows VERIDIAN to deliver the depth of a party-based fantasy campaign whenever you want to play. Your characters remain yours. The world remains persistent. The campaign does not depend on coordinating a group of human players.

The same world can produce very different campaigns.

A single-character campaign can feel different from a four-character party. A profession-heavy group can interact with the world differently from a combat-heavy group. A politically connected party can have different opportunities from outsiders. A wealthy property-owning party can have different priorities from travelling adventurers. A magic-heavy group can solve problems differently from a martial group. Different relationships and reputations alter the campaign further. VERIDIAN is designed for variation produced by game systems, not merely different AI prose.

A concrete example

The same problem, different people.

An illustrative situation: an artisan examines a damaged cart, a scout checks the road and a healer speaks to the injured driver. Each approach depends on the person taking it. Sharing their discoveries can give the party a fuller picture, without making every character automatically know everything.
