Resources with real purpose

Make, trade and invest with intention.

Connect crafting skill, tools, facilities and regional trade to the things your party needs and the projects it wants to build.

What this means for your play

Choices with practical meaning.

Gold, materials and goods belong to a connected economy. What you can make or buy depends on resources, knowledge, location and the world around you.

Crafting has a foundation

Skill, knowledge, tools, facilities and materials make a project possible. A request alone does not create an item from nothing.

Markets reflect their place

Local production, geography and trade can affect what you find. Travelling elsewhere can offer a different source or opportunity.

Spend with a longer horizon

Fund equipment, services, property or a project. Saving and investment create choices beyond the next encounter.

Shortages can create adventures

A missing resource can lead to exploration, work, trade or negotiation. The economy becomes part of play rather than a background price list.

In depth

How it works.

Read the part that interests you. Each capability connects to your party and the continuing world.

Make things because the world provides the means to make them.

Crafting is connected to the world around the party.

  • Resources matter.
  • Knowledge matters.
  • Skill matters.
  • Tools and facilities can matter.
  • Availability matters.

What can be produced depends on what your characters legitimately have access to. Crafting is part of the economy and progression rather than an unlimited item-generation button.

Gold belongs to a world with an economy.

VERIDIAN supports an economy where trade, resources, professions, settlements and ownership interact.

  • Characters can earn.
  • Spend.
  • Trade.
  • Invest.
  • Acquire property.
  • Purchase services.
  • Buy equipment.
  • Sell what they own.
  • Pay specialists.
  • Fund projects.

The economy creates choices because wealth competes with other priorities.

What is available can depend on where you are.

Different settlements can support different goods, resources, specialists and opportunities. Travel can therefore matter economically. A resource may be common in one region and difficult to obtain elsewhere. A profession may have more opportunity in one settlement than another. A specialist may only be found in the places capable of supporting that profession. The world should give geography economic meaning.

A concrete example

A supply problem opens more than one route.

An illustrative situation: your chosen project needs a material the local workshop does not hold. You could seek another supplier, arrange trade or pursue a legitimate source yourself. Each route connects time, money, capability and relationships, and leaves a different history behind.
